Spotted one on Sunday. Are peaked nautical hats with white crowns and gold anchor motif fashionable at the moment, have they become a sartorial statement?

This one was spotted on a speedboat, worn by the sixty odd year old owner.

Are they more suited to yotties?

I dunno, but I thought I looked rather dashing in 1971! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got one with "skipper" on it!
Bought by friends, and SWMBO makes me wear it every time they come down to the boat!!

The hat I saw was the real McCoy millionaire style patent leather peaked cap with real gold thread anchor motif.

It's not something your mother buys you or you pick up from the Nauticalia stand at SIBS.

Personally, I'm a Kiss Me Quick or knotted handkerchief sort of person, but if like Tony Curtis, it would help me pull Marilyn Monroe, I'd wear a sailor hat.

Anyone want to guess which famous hotel, the picture jhr posted, was taken at.?

Pleased to say I have stayed there.

Can't sail without mine! Anyway, how would anyone know who was skipper if I didn't wear the proper 'at?

Oh, Bu@@er, I forgot to hide all them ropes & the stick thingy. I apologise if I frightened any of the purist MoBo'ers in here with all the complications - but don't worry about it, you won't be required to pull anything.

Great picture.

BTW - that picture book in front of you. Is it some sort of substitute for a chartplotter? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pic was taken after launch this spring. I was taking her from Dickies to Caernarfon. Closer inspection will reveal that the pretty picture is the Swellies. A piece of water not to be pissed about with! OK, so you can zoom around in a high powered MoBo, but ONLY if you know what you are doing.

And yes, it knocks my PC chartplotter into a cocked hat (especially in strong sunlight!)

[/ QUOTE ] Was I correct in identifying it as Cruising Anglesey & Adjoining Waters by Ralph Morris.
