I have bought a DELL Axim and I am having trouble connecting it to the internet so I can check my emails or log on whilst in Alderney (unless Bill is so kind as to let me have a daily slot).

I can get it to dial up and connect bu as soon as I ask it to do anything it drops the line, actually it drops the line within 20 secs or so.

Can anyone walk me though this?

If you think it's connecting, then dial up number is probably ok, but goes down hill from there on?

Are you connecting to ISP, then losing connection when you try to do email or internet?

If so, you're settings are all to pot

Which ISP? Which email provider?

Cable and Wireless ISP is msn.com

Dom,

The Dell pDA's have a software problem at the moment, not having much to do with Dell, I am not sure what it is, however I read on www.theregister.co.uk (the PC reseller equvalant of the Sun) that there is going to be afix issued on the Dell web site.... Might be worth a look.

Steve

PS should have brought an iPaq....

If you want to borrow an iPaq to try out let me know, I'm off to the Loire tommorow (sat) tho.

If it's not the patch issue that was mentioned, might be worth setting up a pay per use account with Freeserve. They have a facility to download settings automatically (check first if they have one for your PDA), which would at least let you see if everything is working.

Things to check otherwise are your Pop and SMTP settings for the mailbox, and also the port number. Don't know the Dell, but usually all these are in one area in connections or email setup.

I go through this every year when I buy a new phone, and it's a little painful, but get there eventually

Defo should have bought an Ipaq - I'm writing this from Spain using an Ipaq and Vodafone GPRS. Works first time every time!

I know there is an issue with the Axim running PPC2003 and compatibility with some of the Compact Flash GPRS cards - is this what you are trying to use?

<hr width=100% size=1>

yeah trying to do it through my Siemens me45.

Not too bothered at the mo as it is nor what I bought the Axim for plus the axim was alot cheaper than the Ipaq.

Oh well it will either work or it wont. I am on holiday now so not that bothered.
