Well done to Portishead Cruising Club for running yet another fantastic Holmes Race. I understand that there were in excess of 60 entries this year making this event the biggest yacht race on the Bristol Channel and its easy to see why its so well supported.

1. Choice of start time so that each boat can time rounding the Holmes at low tide
2. Special tidal element applied to handicaps to compensate for the advantage slower boats have in tidal races.
3. Strict Byron PY handicaps .....no club ammended handicaps as used by some clubs in
their own club racing here.
4. Marina berthing right by the startline....leaves Ilfracombe for dead if you have a Fin
keeler! These four points encourage wide participation.

The weather this year was a bit testing and perhaps as a result, the first two places were taken by Nicholsons which are renowned for their heavy weather performance.

It would have been good to see more boats from Ilfracombe & Swansea though......Come on
Guys why not turn up channel for the Holmes race next September and lets go for 100+ entries. !

Well done again PCC
