Try Maptec. 'Cruising Navigator' (cost -less than £100 + £100 for chart CDs which
have 25-40 charts) I have used 'CN' in the Med for a year and found it excellant!

Is this program good?, I'm in the med and would like to go PC plotting, is the chart coverage good for the med and are the charts good quality, IE plenty of detail? Thanks for any advice you could give.

Ozi-Explorer ....

Very good program, but as a Feebie ... only accepts BMP graphics and lots of disk space for them ....

I scanned various charts and then spent time stitching together ..... numerous faults in joints where sections where out of sync etc. etc.

Good program, but really needs the registered version if you want to use good charts and keep your hard drive for other uses !

Nigel ...
Bilge Keelers get up further ! I only came - cos they said there was FREE Guinness !

Italian sailing mag gave a free cd-rom with their Genova Boatshow issue:
it covered Canaries, Madeira, Azores and Caribbean. They had an offer
in the mag for 5 other cd's covering the entire Med Aegian etc from Gib
to Turkey. About 40 quid, too good to miss. Called 'SAILPLAN', cartography
is NAVIONICS. Instructions are in Italian but you can access English for
the charts. Have to dig out the address if anyone's interested. Needs Windows
95 or better.

Thanks, Had a look, the prices are a bit high for my liking, I didn't see any evidence of the special offers mentioned, maybe too late, oh well! back to the drawing board.

Hello
This is my first post ,been lurking for ages and feel its about time i contributed.
Someone posted this a while back http://www.sping.com/seaclear/ I downloaded it to my PC (free) and found it very easy to use ,have not used it at sea as i am currently an armchair sailor (previous yachts ferro 45 & moody 39) and i navigated the old way (sextant & chronometer)
Hope this will help you.

Anchorite is right re. the SAILPLAN version.
It has been given away free of charge, but actually (as the name implies) it's just a "planning" tool.
It does not accept any NMEA connection, thus can't be used for real-time navigation.
Anyhow, if the "dock usage" fits your needs, I'd suggest to download from "www.sw-n.com" the demo of the "Sailware cruise" version.
This demo is in fact fully functional, again with the only exception of not accepting GPS connection.
It's available in english, and it's reasonably user friendly.
The only drawback is the annoying window when starting the software, which tell you that it's a demo.

Have a look at/
farevela.net/index.shtml

They have the 5 cd-roms on offer (you can try one, like I did with the Caribbean
freebie...) at 5.2 Euros each.

I had a look, I tried to order all the meddy ones, but as soon as I select one, it freezes my computer, which shuts down explorer for some reason. But tell me, is sailplan included in each of these discs, or is it just the charts for that area? I just want one copy of sailplan and one of each of ther areas, but I don't mind buying all four I need for 20 euros, thats very cheap, do they allow your GPS to be linked? Thanks for your help.
