PC app\'s to interface with GPS\'s

Before anyone starts moaning - this is NOT a commercial - it breaks my heart to
recommend anything from Oz - especially after what they've done to ANZ & the All
Blacks!
My usage of my Magellan GPS320 has increased ten-fold now that I can "play" with it
on my PC - setting/checking waypoints - plotting routes - tracking races & whatever.
This is all carried out via OziExplorer (http://www.oziexplorer.com/) which is available
for a free trial. It's even better now I've found how to download charts f.o.c. and use
those in conjunction.
Does anyone down there use OziEx or are there similar prog's available?

I have used Ozi-explorer for the last couple of years with a MLR SP24XC and wouldn't be without it.

Would like to know where you get the charts foc from.

You must realise that these charts are only for reference - not navigation.
And you may have difficulty finding your way onto them. But do have a look at the
Bay of Islands charts. Find 35 11.604S/174 02.014E and, if you can zoom in far enough,
you'll find Wavelength on her marina berth. Take a trip up the winding scenic river,
passing through orchards, native bush and rather nice houses with sweeping lawns and
magnificent gardens to the Stone Store Basin where the missionaries first settled. You
can moor here - either at the jetty or drop your pick and take a stern line to the
bridge. Thirsty? Have a Tetleys or a Steinlager at the cafe while the kids feed the
ducks and then amble up the path to Kororipo Paa - site of Honi Heke's stronghold
with wonderful views of the folds in the river. Then take the path up through the gum
trees and bush into Kerikeri - New Zealands "Top Small Town" - where I live the life of
Riley. Alternatively you can walk the rather rougher but even more spectacular track up
the river taking in the waterfall and, if it's a warm day, enjoy a swim in one of the
numerous pools.
Can't think why I emigrated!
