There was an earlier post on the subject of how to get a good deal on the PBO small craft almanac.

I usually buy the looseleaf Reeds Nautical Almanac which appears to be twice the price of the PBO small craft version

What do I miss out on if I get the PBO version - if anything ??

Just the updates on the harbours, marinas, buoyage etc and all that sort of thing. You'd be surprised at the amount of change year on year.
That said, as you can get the tidal info (which is really what you need) free of charge from loads of websites, I now dont bother with updating either annually - I merely get a new Reeds every 3 years.

Anyone got any comments on the Cruising Association one?

About the same price as Reeds, but lasts for 2 years. A lot more pilotage info than the PBO one, and very nicely printed with coloured 'chartlets'. (Going on the '06/07 version).

Reeds is over the top for what I need.

CA Almanac (there's a link to a sample page there). Worth buying at a show, if you're going, to save P&P.

(No connections, etc.)

The PBO has all the basic navigational information that you need for the popular UK and West Europe cruising areas. Monthly updates are available FOC from the Adlard Coles website. Other almanacs have more/bigger chartlets, photos and further non-essential information etc.
