Being a life long “practical boat owner” having converted lifeboats, laid canvas decks, marinised engines, built masts, modified the interior of a 4 ton sloop, reconditioned a VolvoMD2B, built a motor sailor from a bare hull and so on I have always found other peoples similar activities interesting, but as for a report on a £60,000 German yacht, what’s the point, its outside my price range! What about more reports on British Boatbuilding classics such as the Laurent Giles Westerly range, what to look for, weakness such as the Centaurs bilge keels. Don’t forget about power boats such as the Huntress, Huntsman and Dell Quay Rangers.

You seem well up on most things to do with yachts and boats, Why don't you write some good articals and send them in, that should be interesting for all of us,
And you never know you could get paid for it if it good. (JUST AN IDEA)

I wonder what was behind the move of Sarah from YM to PBO.

The convergence of the two titles has been happening for a long time, Sarah's brief may either be to continue that process and produce a YM clone, or to give it a distinct direction of its own. Either way I think she needs to be given some time to make any changes.

I'm not a regular YM reader, but I bought the current issue a few days ago. That seems to be full of narrative this issue, very little of any practical value. I usually enjoy the odd sailing story but this month seems excessive.

Now wouldn't it be a good idea if IPC used these very successful forums to canvas opinions as to the editorial direction of the publications

They did send out a questionaire a while ago about the content of one of the mags, can't remember which one now, even though I did fill it out!

Understand you're pretty miffed, But why 5 seperate threads??

I must admit to thinking the same myself. And it is a bit disappointing to buy PBO, only to find a review or an article on something that appeared in YM the month prior.

I tend to buy Sailing Today now.

Until there is clear evidence to the contrary, I have to conclude that IPC executives cannot agree how to shape their strategies for these two magazines. To merge them would reduce income, and costs of production of course, but yielding more ground to the competition is not what senior editors are paid to recommend!

Market share vs net income - my, what a mexican standoff !

Peter Gibbs - who confesses to having faced many similar situations in his incarnations as marketing director.
