Rather enjoying reading the Issue 1 PBO. Dare I say, it looks more technically in depth (excuse the pun) than current issues. Definitely an interesting read.

Particularly like seeing an advert for a the new Normans including a Norman 18 for £395 quid. That was my first boat, about 15 years ago. Great memories of the little chap.

What's the date of the first issue?

I picked up the first 3 years of PBO, each year in a hard folder about 20 years ago.

Tried to sell them when moving - no offers, to which I'm glad really 'cos every now and then I will pick one at random and an hour or so later realise I haven't completed it 'cos I'm reading the ads as well:)

Bit of thread hijack, but I know that a few motorboaters read the PBO forum and thought they might be interetsed in the first issue of MBM, also available to download HERE

It's relatively modern in comparison at only 25 years old but possibly interesting nevertheless.

Couldn't agree more, excellent. What came before PBO? I'd like to find something similar from the early 50's just to see if there are any features on Geo Wilson's boats that I haven't seen.
A magazine called "light Craft" I think it was. I used to buy it every month, I think it was taken over by PBO eventually. I've got every issue of PBO to date - how sad is that?

Cheers, Brian.

I started buying PBO at number 46 and bought everyone until 198. Made me think I'd be able to get afloat using plywood harvested from teachests.

Particularly remember a series about the building of a slightly enlarged YM Senior by, I think, Martin Guppy.

Completed my set by buying 1 to 61 for sum of £15 in early 1980's. Particularly like the Den Aston Longboat series. Still have them. Denny Desouter as editor takes some beating but I guess times move on.

Still read it occasionaly from the give away pile at the marina

Transferred allegiance to Classic Boat and Wooden Boat and have complete still growing set of both.
