PBO gets a new editor

'She has been completely in tune with her readership'

Is that why so many have complained on here that PBO is getting more & more aimed at rich yotties & less & less aimed at DIY boat owners. Maurice & Des would be devastated with what has become of their magazine originally aimed at the man in the street starting out boating on a budget & doing much of his own mantenance.

Ah well maybe now it will move back away from fashion statement to PRACTICAL Boat Ownership.

Rich yachties intersted in buying a £400 boat on Ebay, thoroughly stripping it and painting it and ending up with a shiny £430 boat to sell on Ebay? I've found it pretty good in the last few years since I started reading.

Derogatory comments about women are not jokes, they are derogatory comments. By all means be rude about the magazine and its editor if you wish, but lose the unpleasant misogyny.

Maurice and Des ?

Denny Desoutter was the first editor with George Taylor as deputy surely.

Quote from Simon Owen.

"She has been completely in tune with her readership and has never tired of coming up with brilliant creative ideas to superserve the PBO marketplace!"

Joke of the century.

Leaving to go freelance. Hmmm.

I find some of the managementspeak deployed by the new editor and the publishing director less than encouraging - 'into the future... a strong brand... subscriber base... core values... multi-platform...' 'superserve the PBO marketplace'.

That said, I wish them all well with it, and hope it's the start of a revitalised PBO.

when I was a hack on Farmers Weekly the management used to spout the most astonishing tosh

clearly they have refined the art over the years

agreed SR. And it needs to go back to boat ownership, not exclusively sail boat ownership which is where it's gone for the last couple of years.

There seems a yearning within the responses to remain in the past and a hope that any changes the new chappie might make, will take a reverse direction....

100% agree

Why all the corporate bull****? Why cant they tell us whats really happening? Is Sarah fed up? Or is she up the duff? Has she fallen out with the boss? I would read what has been announced as the journo equivalent of a politician spending more time with his family!

I wish her the best. I've enjoyed reading the magazine under her editorship even if the announcements is just irritating. " brilliant creative ideas to superserve the PBO marketplace!" for heavens sake. And " PBO's core values of practicality, common sense and enjoyment afloat are timeless" - its a magazine sunshine, not a cross between a happy clappy church and a political movement!

Ah the fourm finger is on the pulse again....pulse of the wrong person  :D

Maurice and Des wouldn't care a jot! They were former editors of YACHTING MONTHLY! A magazine where Old Harry resided too.

Sarah was the editor of Yachting Monthly 10 years ago. Since then she's been the editor of Practical Boat Owner.
