I would like to do Atlantic Circuit next year. Proposed route would be S of France, Gib, Maderia, Canaries and across, then if courage, allows back again to the Med.
SWMBO cannot join in the fun on the long legs for health reasons, so I need a couple of crew, ones who would be willing to contribute to expenses.
Has anyone any experience of these matters ie. is there a going rate etc? Where to advertise?
The last time I had crew was in 1984 when 3 of us put £1k each into a kitty and sailed until it had been eaten and drunk away, amazingly we managed 7 months from Wales to Palma! Since then it has always just been the two of us.

No need to tell me that finding compatible people may be rather difficult but I would have the winter to interview prospectives over a beer or two.

Crewseekers.co.uk is another popular site - free to skippers. Worked for me both for recruiting crew and when I wanted to do my first long offshore trip.

We charge £10 as a contribution to provisioning. You could probably go up to say double that before insurers consider there's an element of profit and void your cover!

People will accept different levels of charge for different passages. Up to £150 a day is the going rate for people selling berths for the ARC. For the return crossing you'll be pushed to find someone to do it free!

i spoke in depth with various insurers before our atlantic trip
the figure you can charge according to the insurance companyvaries greatly from cost of food and drink only
to £2000 for the crossing.
you may want to talk to the mca as if you are not coded they will give you some ideas about documenting what the crew are paying for.
