Have found a number of sources (internet) of Spanish PAYG SIM cards (Movistar, Orange or Vodaphone) available in the UK...but am struggling to find similar for Portugal.

Can Portuguese SIMs be obtained in the UK? If not, can I obtain in Portugal without having a local address??

I've got 2 vodafone PAYG sims without an address. 1 from Faro Airport, and one from the Vodafone shop in Lagos.

The airport one was 10 euros and had 10 euros of credit, (think it was a special offer). The lagos one was 10 euros with 5 euros of credit, although ISTR that we get a free 5 euros when we top up for the 1st time.

We've been buying Movistar SIMS complete with phone for 25 Euros complete with 25 Euros of talk time PAYG from Movistar shops!

You can obtain Portuguese sim PAYG from any phone shop in Portugal without having a local address. We got one a couple of years ago. To keep it active you need to top put some money on at least every 90 days, but I think they now cost 30 euros and that is with 20 euros of credit so even if you throw the sim in the bin when you leave it is cheaper than the charges for using your UK mobile abroad. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This forum is worth a look. The sticky at the top is self evident, and you can search for globalsim or geosim to see what people say. There are also other options, the best of which seem to be routed via the IOM

I use what was a callblue sim, but due to some strange changes, it's now a GT-sim, at the same rates.

It's an 07624 1xxxxx number where calls to the UK cost about £0.26 per minute, and callers from the UK pay £0.13 per minute, (shows Manx Telecom on the bill). I think they may pay less off peak, but not certain.

beats the hell out of a UK Sim.... I spent about £250 in one month in Madeira in 2004.... and that started the search for cheaper options!

Hope this helps

Richard
