Back from Scotland and saw the first pay and display mooring in Loch Ness!

Good idea. Even temp license can be given using a pay machine and then prosecute any other boat with no license. No execuse that no one was around to get the license!

They have had a pay and display mooring tickets machine on the park moorings by the Rowing Museum at Henley for some time now. Trouble is the credit card operation has been unreliable when I have been there this year so the guy coming round and knocking on the window each morning has still been needed.
Also, no regular parking attendant passing by so still possible for someone to arrive late and leave early without paying.

Would be interesting to know just how much money is lost by mooring fees evasion.

I have no doubt some form of automated payment will become common in the not too distant future - I think a commercial company has been pitching to the local authorities etc. Maybe payment by mobile phone similar to system which is in place at Windsor Station car park ?

Ones on Loch Ness are interesting-harbour nr.Drumnadrochit is on private property-local family used to provide local transport/deliveries from boats that used to put into the pier etc.
They still own land and houses adjascent to harbour-therefore strict controls over harbour-only available for short stay visiting yachts despite local boat owners asking permission to use in winter.
As harbour is next door to houses they do not want the noise of cars etc all winter.
Also it should be noted that if we get alot of rail/snow melt the harbour can go below water and boats get washed up onto concrete deck!

Managed by Caley Marine/Cruisers in Inverness as a stop off point for their hire cruisers.
Last time I spoke to owners of Caley Cruisers they intimated that generally visiting boats were honest and used ticket machine.
