I hadn't known who ' Old Varnish ' was - though I know Paul Heiney ( and Libby ) through their excellent work; I also hadn't known of their terrible loss.

Thanks for putting up this very good piece.

The sea is a magical place where we can be at one with ourselves and the people in our lives. What a beautiful and touching article. I enjoyed his blog which in contrast was very much focused on the practical aspects of his voyage. I hope a book is to follow soon.

Nice article.

It does make me curious (and not a little jealous!) about Nicholas's epic sailing career at a relatively young age.

The book based on Nicholas's writing is really worth reading. Search on amazon for 'the silence at the song's end', I got it as a kindle download a couple of years ago and I still think about it.
