Hold on boys and girls! Surely this cannot be good for the marine environment?

Correct and not a exactly a surprise. I don't spray it on as per instructions. I just use a brush instead, it doesn't take very long to do the deck and there's no run off at all. It is pointless trying to use Patio Magic, or any other common products containing benzalkonium chloride, if rain is expected within 5-6 hours.

Once it dries it seems to prevent regrowth for 12-18months, so it doesn't leech out of the wood after it has had a chance to dry. Obviously it's best to apply when boat is laid up ashore and I doubt it presents any significant hazard to marine life if used as described.
