Pathfinder Powerboat Club

Not having heard of the club before, it would be useful to know where you're based and what the main aims of the club are. Unless that information is well hidden, I can't see it on your website.

Info is available on the club if you click on the 'about us' tab: http://www.pathfinderpowerboat.com/#!about-us/mainPage

I am involved with the club and thought it was worth mentioning that the new website is work in development and that was part of the reason we asked for feedback. More history might be nice and I'm sure the club would welcome contributions from former members who have some of this knowledge. You may even want to become involved with the club again!

We also want to get the club back on the radar and to attract new members (or welcome back previous members) and a new website should help.

Remember that we are just a small club run by our members for our members. We have no commercial interests or backing and charge a very small membership fee (£40 per boat in your first year and £35 thereafter) so we don't have a budget for website development which is done by a club member in their spare time.

So please feel free to suggestion improvements or additions and we will do our best.... Even better, get involved with the club and join us out on the water!

Cheers.

Joe

Looks like a club I would love to join. To go cruising with more experienced boaters would be a great confidence booster.

Russ, it is a good way to gain experience and "cruise in company ". I gained a lot from it over the years and it taught me a lot. I plane to run cruise in company, but by honing Pathfinders you can do it more often ! They operate from within the Solent mani boy, but do cruise further afield. I used to run the cruises to Weymouth when I was a member, but that is over 10 years ago now.

Thanks Joe, that section must have been added today as it certainly wasn't there early this morning.

It still doesn't tell us if the club has a physical base, which maybe isn't important but would be of interest. Also seems a shame that those with slower craft are not really included. Otherwise it looks interesting with a decent website.

Hi,

The club does not have a physical base as we are only small with about 15 or 20 member boats. As mentioned on the website, we are Solent/South Coast based with several members berthed at Port Solent although we normally have meeting points on the water for organised trips with boats coming from other marinas or areas of the South Coast.

We specify boats able to cruise at 20+ knots simply because these are the types of boats in the club currently. There is no reason why we could not have a section for displacement boats if there was sufficient interest from people wishing to participate and organise.....

I think the concept is fantastic and a shame there isn't something similar in South Devon as there is a lot to be gained (IMHO) from this type of club. Not just in the way of experience and confidence, but friends too. I looked for similar when we started in 2010, but other than Yacht Club (seems a bit too formal and Raggie orientated) found nothing. This was part of the idea behind the Fletcher Rally, but something more frequent and sportsboat/cruising orientated rather than sail would be a great idea. The Solent is too far away for us with our current vessel as 30nm is about the sane limit - although we've considered Torquay to Lyme Regis...

Surprised you don't have more members as fees are negligible and there seems so much interest in this type of club!
