i thought there was a place on the CG (solent) web site that let allowed you to send them a passage plan over the net, i cant seen to find it, does anyone know if this is still possible and if so where to find it
Why would you want to do that? Even if you call them to give an advisory they don't give the next MRCC your details. It's not like being handed-over by an air traffic controller. They do absolutely nothing until someone ashore contacts them to say you are overdue. All you achieve is a record on an HMG database that you did (or intended to do) this at that time. Quite pointless?
You may be remembering that you can file a CG66 Voluntary Safety Identification Scheme form for your boat on the web (Google 'CG66' for details).
If you then give passage info on VHF, the CG already has your details, but as Lemain says this is not a closed loop process. Someone has to advise CG that you are overdue. But at least they then know what they are looking for!
When on passage, I advise my local CG station of my intentions, including an alternative harbour. Upon arrival, as a matter of curtesy, I phone them and advise them of my safe passage. I've been doing this for the last four years and they've always accepted this, never asking me to stop or do something else.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't think they mind you doing it but don't for a minute think that they will raise the alarm if you never contact them again. Much better to tell a relative or friend ashore of your plans then if you don't phone by a certain time they can push the right buttons. The CG will never raise an alarm unless someone calls.
