My Besenzoni pasarelle has a powder coated finish and the paint is starting to flake off in a few places underneath. I have asked a boatyard to quote for repainting the unit and they have come back with a whopping great price of €6500. They are proposing to remove the pasarelle and dismantle it into component pieces before sanding the surfaces and applying 3 primer coats + 3 top coats. Sounds like a pukka job to me but I'm not paying that much to fix a minor problem like this. As I said to the boatyard, I might as well buy a new pasarelle for that money.
Anyone got any ideas what else I could do?

you could ask the contractor, or another one, for a price to mask off the relevant section of the pass and just re-paint that section in situ? They need to do a whole section so that your eye doesn't notice any colour variation, and if you want a really good finish they can build a polythene tent round it before spraying. Even then you it should be a fraction of the €6,500 price.

If it's only the underneath I'd £5.99 aerosol it. I don't think it devalues a boat much to have a few bits of flakey paint on the pass

FWIW my previous boats had white powdercoated passereles, and the coating didn't last, so you're not alone. I ordered the current boat with bright polished s/s

Just a thought, why not sandblast and polish it to bright s/steel?
IIRC, Besenzoni uses the same steel for bright polished and powdercoated passerelles.
At least, they used to. Not sure if this is still the case.

Thanks for replies. I think I will just touch it up with spray paint this year
