seriously considering getting rid of my 22' cabin powerboat (value £8000 ish) and moving to a
24-26 foot sailing boat, value 4-5k.
Is there any way that a broker is going to do a deal? I realise I will probably take a hit on the (perceived) value of my boat, but a deal like this would be straightforward enough in the second hand car world-is it going to happen with a boat?

Highly unlikely unless you can find an individual that is up for a trade. Some agents and manufactures will take some boats in against new ones.

Unlikely. A broker does not own the boats he has for sale - he is an agent for the owner. There are a few who deal in boats on their own account, but mainly power rather than sail.

boat scrapyards

yep, that'swhat I thought....on a slightly different point-what happens to old boats when they get past economical repair? I've yet to see a 'scrapyard' with hulls piled on top of one another with greasy folk wandering around pulling bits off...what do you do if your engine goes pop or you hit a rock and it's not worth repairing?
