Part 1 registration marking

The rules are very specific and you should have been sent them with your registration notice.

I had a teak board made up and hand carved (there's posy for you!) and I screwed it onto the required main beam with the screws in receessed holes. I then part drilled the screw heads so they couldn't ever be unscrewed before using dowel to fill the holes. That met their fixing requirements. I also took pics of the assembly in case they wanted proof!

[/ QUOTE ]That may well be true, but I can't remember them, and don't have the paperwork to hand!...... Mine too is a hand carved plaque (also claiming suitable pose factor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) and is permanently fixed (in my case with peened over through bolts to a bulkhead)

Thanks to everyone for the advice about content and fixing but...

actually I was hoping for the name of a supplier or 2. It does not haveto be in teak, hand-carved or otherwise. I have seen them engraved in plastic and glued ot the chart-table.

There are various online suppliers who will do engraved plastic or metal. It's up to you how pukka a job you do, but no-one checks that you have thru bolted it or used tamper-proof screws. Frankly you could use dymo tape and no-one would bat an eyelid

But if you google plastic engraving you find loads of small businesses that do this. This lot do metal or plastic http://www.gordonengraving.co.uk/

Call the MCGA on +44 (0) 2920 448 866 and ask for the instructions on how to mark your boat with the Reg No and its Tonnage. They are quite specific and simple. For example, glueing to the chart table is a no-no. It doesn't meet the regs.

The regs are also rather out of date. Modern epoxy is more permanent than any tamper proof screw. And it is difficult to identify which bit of curved plastic is "the beam" on many modern mobos. So glue it on to a solid, permanent and visible part of the boat and you've met the spirit of the regs even if you haven't followed them to the letter. The chart table could not be seen to be acceptable.
