A couple of questions regarding Part 1 registry needing answered please.

So i'm looking at a craft that is Part 1 registered, and the owner wants to keep the name, Can he do that, or does he need to name his new boat.... Riverdance 2???

Also if the boat is Part 1 registered, Is It then ALWAYS Part 1 registered??

Many thanks,

Alistair.

Alistair,
From previous posts on this forum I believe the owner can transfer the name to another boat.
If the name remains on the existing boat the new owner will also have sole rights to any sequel ie Riverdance 1, 2 3 etc, but anyone could use Riverdance of Somewhere etc.
Part 1 lasts 5 years from memory, then it has to be renewed

Alistair,

We're potentially going through this on the other side as we may be selling our boat that is Part I registered. our understanding is that we can keep the name and transfer it over to the new boat if we wish - leaving our old boat without a name.

Apparently it is a bit more hassle but can be done.

Hope this helps.

Our boat is Part 1 registered and the previous owners (Army) wanted to keep the name. We agreed to this as we didn't partic like the name and it was associated with a succession of boats belonging to the Grenadier Guards.

Took us ages to find a new name which we liked and which was unique. As others have said, Pt 1 registration is for 5 years and then you have to renew. Fatipa makes a good point about the cost of doing it from scratch if you do let it go.

It probably adds a small amount of value to the boat so I would keep it going.

This is correct. On transferring the name to another vessel, you must re-mname the original to remain on the register.

Have you got a name ready plus some alternatives incase yours has already gone?
