Hi

I have a lifting keel and rudder on my boat. In order to add 0.0001 of a knot to our racing speed this year I am going to remove the antifouling from the rudder and paint it white which i am assured is the fastest colour.

Just had a test sand with my lidl multi tool (mask on before all the dire warnings) and not much seemed to happen! Its Cruiser Uno, not many coats. Seems to me like wet sanding and washing it off might be better?

Does anyone know which bosch pads fit the parkside and is this the right way to get rid of the antifouling or is there a better way?

On the boat I just sand it back a bit amd recoat which works fine.

Cheers

Rob

You'll probably find scraping it much easier if you're only doing the rudder. Loads of threads here on scraping antifouling.

By the way, white is only a better colour if you remember to look over the side to check for and then clear any weed that you've picked up.

Shurhold do a range of tools that may help. I use a swivel scrubber with a scrubber pad attachment, there are three grades of these pads. The pole is detachable and use can fit something like a boat hook on to the end. scrubbers are very good at removing flaking antifoul but wont damage the gelcoat.
