:confused:Being a 1st time visitor to Southampton Boat Show and planning to go on Tuesday 17th does anybody have any suggestions as where spaces might be to park for the day? Would plan to arrive @ 9.30 - 10am and stay till the close.
I don't know Soton well though have done Coastal Skipper, YM there with Southern Sailing and stayed in B+B etc. Is there a Park and Ride for the show, or is it a jostle for the town's multistorey parks?
Cheers
Jonty

The big multi story next to the show, on west quay, is the best bet.

Easy.

There is a £5/day car park on the corner of Brunswick Square / Orchard Place, between Oxford Street and Queens Terrace.

Its about a 5 - 10 minutie walk away. I think it works out cheaper than the multi-story next door, but is farther to walk. Depending on which way you come into the city it might be easier to reach, or then again, might not be.

I said on the other thread that if you are looking for a bar or resturant, Oxford Street is a nice place to go as well.

Thanks folks - that's a great help. Do the car parks tend to get packed out?

Yes. Not too bad on week days but weekend I would expect it to be very crowded.

Another idea would be to train in from a parking friendly station (so that's NOT Eastleigh). There is a free bus from the Station to the Red Funnel Ferry or its a 10 - 15 minute walk.

Even though its a longer journey for me (home to Swanwick is about the same as Swanwick to the boat show!) I will be using the park and ride from Swanwick park and ride if I end up going on a Saturday.

+1 for the West Quay car park.

You've already said you're going on Tues, they'll be lots of spaces and it's an easy walk in, and easy out when you're tired with bags of brochures that you'll be surprised you picked up. I'd avoid the Park and Rides, the buses have to queue through the same traffic as your car would, and you've just made a big detour to get there. I think they are a hangover from the days before West Quay when there was no parking.
Go down the M271, along the A33 and straight into the car-park. Enjoy it!

I've been into west quay onthe Saturday... Never had a problem getting a space... Even fairly late arriving...

Yes, defintely West Quay - the multi-storey on the roundabout as opposed to the Podium Car Park next to John Lewis. It's about £8 for the day I think. Walk across the foot-bridge into the shopping cantre and M&S is on your right. Get some sandwiches or whatever there and then go downstairs and exit the shopping centre as far from John Lewis as you can and you're right beside the show entrance.

That's exactly what I do... I even bought a comfy pair of shoes especially one year..

Don't know if it is still the same but one year I arrived at Southampton after 10am and found that the BR car park by the station was the cheapest place going. (10 minute walk tho' and carrying all the rope that I couldn't resist on the way back made me realise the advantrages of a closer car park). I don't know if Premier extend the option to non-berthholders but they have a park and ride + ticket for (IIRC) £12 leaving from Swanwick which is reasonably close to M27.

I hate driving in cities. Is it worth parking at the Parkway and getting the train?

Getting from the station is a case of taking the free, single story ferry bus and getting off at M&S and walking from there. If you go to the town quay, it's a much longer walk.

10 mins further on you get to Swanwick and you could use the park and ride. Let me know if you do and if I can get out of work for an hour I will pop down and say hello / put the kettle on.

Also there is of course the 2nd user boat show, just in case ....
