I will be in France, near Bayeux, next week and can possibly get to Paris on Thursday, to go to the boat show. Then head for Calais on Friday

Plan A is to get up early and drive reasonably close to Paris, then go in via the RER & Metro. Does anyone know which station to head for, and be able to park the car all day? Also are the French peasants still revolting, and making travel by public transport problematic?

Plan B is to drive right to the show and park in one of the car parks. Is this likely to be possible if I arrive a bit late, say 11AM?

If I was doing it with a car full of kit I would drive right into the centre of Paris and use one of the expensive parking payants, which all have people checking who goes in and out and security cameras. Leaving a GB plate car full of kit in the Paris suburbs is absolutely asking for trouble.

I did wonder that. I won't have kit in the car till after the show, but was wondering if I would be able to get in to one of the car parks actually at the exhibition centre?

Went there two years ago - plenty carparking space and not expensive. My general feeling was that there was a desire to encourage punters rather than the creation of obstacle courses that London goes in for. The "salon" is NOT in the suburbs.

Strikes have ended, and public transports run smoothly.
The metro station for the boat show is "Porte de Versailles", the salon is located on the south west of the town limit, an area as safe as all the rest of the city, or in other words you do not take any additional risks /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I suppose you would find places during weekdays, possibly more difficult on saturday/sunday. Do not underestimate the traffic: if you drive in the morning you will be in company of a lot of commuters, boatshow visitors representing a tiny percentage of people travelling from residential areas to the SW to Paris town for work. 1100 would seem ok though

If I were coming from Bayeux I would come down the A13 and go to Poissy. There you can get the RER into Paris and there is a cheap car-park at the station.

You are then well placed afterwards for picking up the A16 (much nicer drive than the A1) via Cergy-Pontoise.

You can google "Mappy" to get the various routes.

We're exhibiting at Paris. There is a covered car park just opposite our appartment in Rue de Vaugirard, about 200m from the exhibition main entrance that had space in the middle of the day yesterday and Friday. One way road directly opposite the main entrance. Car park on left.
Metro is easy too. Porte de Versailles is the station you want.
Excellent show with loads of boats and well laid out equipment halls. Enjoy your visit - come and say hello if you have time. Hall 2.1, stand D55!
