I don't like to buy by post but I have bought spares for the engine and the company have sent the box with Parcelforce.

When I have arrived today to my home the parcel there was outside the house in front of my door.
I am very lucky because somebody could stole it.

Is this the normal practice of parcel companies?

I think the delivery record requirement is determioned by the sender, and not the carrier.

I have often requested items to be left in the porch, but the carrier normally refuses, even if I have put this on the order, as their contract with the sender requires then to get a signature.

As they refuse to state a time for delivery, you can have many days of failed delivery until you are forced to go to their depot, which for Parcelforce is a 45 min drive for us.

The whole delivery thing makes internet purchases a nightmare!

I have parcels sent through Parcel Force on a fairly regular basis. My experience is that if no-one is at home, they leave a card and try again the next day.

If no-one home on second attempt you need to collect from their depot. This isn't too much of a problem for me.

I have never known them leave the parcel on the doorstep, even if the parcel did not need to be signed for.

Used to use them as a sender on contract. If P.O.D. (proof of delivery) is in the contract they should get it. They use to pay us out on insurance all the time with hardly any query.

Usually a note attached to the door permitting parcel to be left will work and they will take this away as a P.O.D.

Their favorite trick seems to be to slip the card saying that they tried to deliver a package under the door, without knocking first. Had this happen twice and on both occasions there was more than one person home.

Maybe I should consider repairing the door-bell :)

I sent a parcel from UK to Portugal, insured Datapost, they sent it all the way back, because I wasn't there personally to sign for it! Cost me another 50 quid to send it back! To myself in the ancasta office!

We had some nice new teak grabrails delivered by parcelforce last week but as we were out they left a card through the door. Phoned them up and they delivered at a time to suit, quite a good service I thought, unlike.....

Parceline, these clowns tried to deliver some charting software and ARCs CD's today but again we were out (do they think it odd that most people are at work during office hours?). The card they left was a mastpiece in arrogance. The options were. Give them authority to leave it on the step (not likely at that price); have a full day off work while they deliver (they won't even say if they can deliver am or pm. The final icing on the cake was, yes we can deliver in the evening but they want the customer to pay for it (good work if you can get it, paid at both ends).

Seems like there is a good business opportuity for someone who understands customer service.

Well now ,
I run my business using parcel force. Why !! because they actually do a good job .
I know how to package my packages !! I know when it will get there ,I know how much it will cost
No good just generalising about them .
I lived in West London before moving to Lincolnshire so I can make a judgement re different deliveries in different areas.
Problem is to do with poor management low workforce moral ,
you know, pay low get low ,how can any firm make long term profits on the back of low staff wages and poor training, we all heard about the losses they are making.
If you want a good strong company then actually invest in your work force and when they improve because of good training pay them more .
What will you get in return , a happy contented work force that will want to work for your company be loyal to your company and want to keep your customers happy . That means more turnover more profit and even better, more future growth.
Parcel force do a good job so help them by understanding your responsibility as a customer package it right ,organise delivery receivers end !!!
but keep using them or we will end up with the cowboys .

While in Germany at an exhibition I ordered some new stock ,which was to be delivered to the show from Australia ,it cost a fortune and finally got there 4 days late ,this lost me valuable revenue ,DHL more like f****k*** hell

Customers some times send their carburetters to me by cowboy firm !!!
you never know when where how what , but with parcel force I know I will receive it ,98% of the time its on time every time .
You know the slogan keep it British !!

The postmaster at Hamble was calling them Porcel Farce 10 years ago.

During the .COM boom days I heard of a plan to use petrol stations as local drop off points for this mail-order dilemma.

British or not British is not a good practice to leave a parcel in your door step. A very easy solution if you are not at home is to leave a note and you can pick up the parcel in your local Royal Mail office or Postal Office (If you want to send a parcel you go to your local Postal Office and leave the parcel there)

keep it British only because is British is not a good practice. Years ago there was a motorbike company in Spain colled "Sanglas". The motorbikes was very bad, but there was a policy of keep it Spanish. The government protected the company, Sanglas didn't invest in a better product and the company disappeared.
