Stupidly put an oil lamp on the seat for a brief moment and it fell over spilling a small amount of paraffin. Despite immediate hot soapy water and plenty of absorbant cloth treatment the smell remains.
Any bright ideas for getting rid of the smell. I am making new covers but can't put them on because they will take on the same whiff.
Many thanks

I think the smell of the paraffin will go with plenty of airing, out in the sun on a few fine days perhaps, but a sort of musty smell might remain. You could try "Febreeze" to get rid of the last of the smell. Well mask it, but there are products that Brendan has mentioned* that will truly remove smells, maybe not paraffin though.

New covers is really the time for new innards as well! Foam, if it's foam, deteriorates.

Dunlopillo may be permanently damaged by paraffin.

Too late now, Zig, but the water was not a good idea, better as Vic says, let it evaporate, it still will, but take longer, it,s not too bad, as pongs go!!! Bill.

Ahh. Wish I'd know that before! eech.
Anyway many thanks both of you for the advice. Already tried the airing & febreeze but hadn't thought of cat pee 'remover'!
The good news is that the new covers are coming along. No need for new foam - yet.
The smell seems to be lessening either that or I'm getting used to it.
