Now then, please do not construe this post as a whinge and a whine, but id like to share my latest experience in coming back to work in the merchant navy after a ten month break.

Having worked on rescue vessels in the past i guessed the same would happen joining a supply vessel, with one week to go onboard im still immersed in paperwork, i barley have time to write this!! safety folders, log books, checklists, computer work, blah blah blah...... how can the MCA preach safety to mariners when their heads are stuck in paper all the time? i dont have time to look out the window anymore! reports and files are killing the job, where will this end? "fatigue" they will say is the main cause of collisions, really? ,why do you think were all knackered.......filling out your bloody time sheets does'nt help matters Mr MCA, im officially worried that its not going to get any better, anyone of the same mind? (if you can still keep your eyes open after staring at paper for days on end),i now have to prepare the safety meeting forms for t'morrows meeting..........;) my topic..keeping a proper lookout while juggling A4 and wondering why my watchkeepers on facebook down below:rolleyes: happy days

Been ashore now a couple of years working as an Operations Superintendent. One of the reasons I swallowed the anchor was the mounting pile of paperwork being thrown my way on the bridge. I now try and limit the amount that needs to be completed from my company..but it is like trying to hold back a flood with just your little finger!
