Have you seen the advertisement for Pantaenius in this months YACHTING World, photo of boat in a marina with a delivery truck after landing on it, caption is "with Pantaenius we dont insist on you keeping your boat in a marina ".
The following is an extract from an e-mail I received from Pantaenius regarding my insurance quote, "I forgot to write the following conditions into the quote, but they will
apply.

- A deductible of 35% applies to claims for the mast, the sails and the
rigging with a minimum of 7,000.00EUR. Sails older than 2 years excluded.
- Vessel to be kept in a marina, not on a mooring.

Please make sure the client receives them along with the quote. Thank you.

I found some of their other wording misleading and ended up being un-insured on a trip from the Azores to the UK.
Apparently the Azores are not Europes port of entry for insurance purposes.
Its worth reading the small print and then getting an interpreter to understand it.

Hi Kirsty

That sounds odd all right and I've pursued it with Pantaenius. They tell me that the only place and time that they insist a yacht is kept in a marina is on the River Tamar in Plymouth, and that the requirement to move to a marina applies only during the winter months, specifically from 14 October to 1 March.

Does that sound like your circumstance and, if not, could you give me some more details to follow up, either here or by sending me a PM?

Thanks
Elaine, Yachting World

Hi Kirsty,

I'd try Bishop Skinner, the RYA insurers, if you're not happy with Pantaenius, as they cover us on our River Tamar mooring year round. As it happens, when not away long term cruising, we do tend to haul her out for the winter, but the insurance is not conditional on that happening. We tried P. a few years ago and found them hugely more expensive, circa 50%!! Having checked as to why (in person, in Plymouth) we were given no reason at all, so placed our business elsewhere.

BS are excellent (especially Bill Southgate, one of the directors) and are truly supportive when the chips are down.

Cheers Jerry

Mmm, Pantandarse wanted 3x more than Cheers brokers to insure my 33 footer, and the buggers wouldnt insure my old 25 footer at all.

Piss on em I say.

Golden rule applies of course:
bigger and glossier the advert = the worse value the product.

Really shite things, McDonalds, Kwick-Fit, Esure have to advertise like billy ho to sell their rubbish. Really good things dont need to advertise at all.
