Pantaenius UK has requested that the following statement be published on this forum
As some of you may be aware, Pantaenius UK Limited has been the subject of some complaints on the internet, by a small number of disgruntled ex-customers.
Whilst these people believe it appropriate to air their grievances in public, we are not able to refute any allegations without commenting on individual claims, and this we are unable to do under our obligations to our customers as professional brokers. Even though we no longer act as Insurance Brokers for the people who are making the complaints, we cannot publicly disclose information from our files.
However, certain facts that are a matter of public knowledge can certainly be put straight.
It has been stated that it is impossible to get hold of the name of the Managing Director. The directors' names are shown on all Company letterheads, and the Managing Director's name is clearly displayed in marketing brochures. Those who are unable to find it from either of these sources will be given it without any hesitation on contacting Pantaenius UK Limited. The Company has never sought to conceal the name of any director. Nor is it true that the MD is based in Monaco.
It has also been stated that the UK owners of Pantaenius sold out to Germans two years ago, and that there has been a structural reorganisation. The Company letterheads show that Pantaenius has been a firm of Insurance Brokers in Hamburg, Germany, since 1899. The UK office was opened in 1990 and the company has always been in German ownership. There has been no structural reorganisation, other than that ownership has been transferred to a holding company, Pantaenius Holdings GmbH.
The allegation that Pantaenius UK Limited is currently fighting a number of court cases is also completely untrue. I can confirm that Pantaenius UK Limited is not involved in any court actions at all.
It has been stated that Pantaenius UK Limited made a trading loss of £500,000 on the previous years figures. Anyone able to read Company accounts will realise that a payment of over £600,000 as a dividend to shareholders does not reflect a trading loss on the previous year when no dividend payment was made.
Pantaenius is an Insurance Broker. The insurer currently leading and fronting the pools of insurers who underwrite the Pantaenius UK Limited Yacht Hull policies is ACE -- one of the world's leading insurance companies, with an excellent security rating, as can be verified by looking at the Standards & Poors website.
Any person who has legitimate grounds for complaint against Pantaenius or his insurers has several avenues open to him for complaint. These avenues would allow both sides of the story to be heard and judged accordingly. Allegations on the internet, on television or in the press cannot, due to our continued practice of confidentiality of client files, be publicly addressed. I would hope that those reading the allegations on the internet -- or hearing gossip -- would reflect on this fact and ask why the more fair and appropriate courses of action have not been taken.
We have many letters each year praising the service and claims handling of Pantaenius UK Limited. No policyholder submitting a valid claim for an incident that is covered by his insurance, and who complies with his contractual obligations under the conditions of his insurance, and co-operates with Pantaenius and with the insurers' appointed surveyors, should have any concerns that he will not receive full and fair reimbursement under the terms of his policy.
