Leaving work in three weeks, moving out of the house in two weeks, boat leaving from Ramsgate in four weeks with me and the family on board for a year. Been working up to this for a couple of years and have worked our way methodically through an enormous task list in recent months, but still feeling anxious. A few major bits and pieces to do before we go like sell the car, sell the RIB, get a new liferaft, and move the last of our possessions to my sister-in-laws.

At one level it feels like we are nearly there, at another I cannot believe that I have not forgotten something. This forum has been really useful in our preparation and so thanks to everybody who has answered questions, or contributed to discussions, as we have been sorting out how to proceed. Our ambition is to do an Atlantic Circuit over the next 12 months and as we are taking our twin 9 year old daughters the advice and support has been very important.

For the record we went with:
Hydrovane, Icom 706 SSB/Ham radio with insulated backstay, Iridium Sat Phone, doing the ARC, laptop/GPS with Sea Pro charts, Aqua4gen, Honda generator and 2x30W solar panels.

Sounds fantastic!
I am jealous!
Have you got a blog so we can track your progress.
Some great ones on Sailblogs.
The girls could do their own.
You boat schooling them?

Good luck -go for it and enjoy!

We are off in about 3 weeks after you to become liveaboards, having gone through a near identical process.

I don't know if it helps but I can't shake off that "I have forgotten something feeling either" /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But that's the trouble with it all taking so long to organise, part of me can't get used to the idea that we are fast coming to the end of the planning stage and entering the starting gate!

I am sure the old bowels will get even looser before you finally cast off...../forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What sort of car are you selling and what price, also what are the details of the rib? I am looking for a cheap 4X4 to pull my boat.

Hope you have an excellant year out. Are you going to keep the forum up to date with your experiences?
