There's a story told about The Pandora Inn and Peter Philips, the West Country racing skipper and one-time police sergeant. Who knows, it might even be true.....
Anyway, it seems that, one wet and windy winter's night, Peter arrived in the bar quite late with his thirsty crew after an attempt at the Round Ireland Record. "I'm afraid you're too late," said the landlord. "It's gone 1100 o'clock and I've called Time."
Unfazed, Peter turned to the dozen or so locals and asked them if they were Cornishmen. "Yezzur," they agreed.
"Well," said Peter, "all the navigation books I own tell me that every degree of west longitude is worth 4 minutes of time. And here at Falmouth, we're at 5 Degrees West, which is 20 minutes, by my reckoning. That means Cornish Time here is 20 minutes later than London Time, and we've still got more than 15 minutes drinking to come. So, every Cornishman here can legally have another pint. Set 'em all up, landlord!" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
