Hello,

What would a recommendation for a marina in Mallorca in early September to pick up family arriving by plane for an 11 meter motorboat. Would it perhaps be cheaper and easier to go to Soller or Andraixt.
How much notice is required to go to Cabrera.

Thanks for any advice,

Regards Nick

The palma marinas are ( comparatively ) cheap. Marin Mallorca or real club nautico

Where are u coming form. Soller is the other side of the island so soller / Palma is a chunk of duke.

Cabrera - you can book online 3 weeks in advance

It's worth checking back daily. I just managed to book a day on the 12th July. There's been nothing available for a while. A message popped up saying they regularly get cancellations and give a call daily, stupidly I didn't take the number but I assume it would be the number from my confirmation below..

"For anchoring, a maximum of fifty boats are allowed per day (two nights during the months of July and August and seven nights the rest of the year). The hours of occupancy of the buoys are from 6 pm on the first day of booking until 5 pm on the last day of the reservation.
For more information address to the phone: 971 656 282. Hours: From Monday to Sunday from 10:00 h. at 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. at 6:00 p.m."

The booking page is https://www.caib.es/rescabfront/mostrarForm?ID_INSTANCIA=3b27769cd9b8c519f96b72f9cf5c890c

When are you out there? We're going tomorrow for a couple of weeks.

We have always stayed at Marina Porte Mallorca - tel is +34 971 289 693. It is a functional marina rather than anything special but in middle of port and easy. Soller too far and Andratz quite far. Re Cabrera when you go to book if you find full then change the description from private boat to charter boat and often you find there are spaces. September I doubt you will have an issue and if you do intend to go to cabrera once guests arrived then you definitely dont want to be in Soller or Andratz.

we're also booked there 11th and 12th !!

Are you staying the evening of the 12th? What's the name of your boat, I'm looking forward to finding some coves to snorkel with the kids, we're on Ice Cool, a Targa 43. What's your boat?

Hi, it is a Beneteau Swift Trawler 34. I am hoping to leave San Carles on the 2nd of Septembert and pick up family on the 5th.
The plan is then to go to Cabrera and Porto Petro. Going back to San Carles in October.
The boat is called Macaroni II.
Hope to see you there!

Hi Nick
I didn't realise that was you - on this forum as well!!
Have a safe trip - I'm sure you will enjoy it.
I expect that we will be over in the islands during that period as well.
Mike

Marina is supposed to be nice enough but El Arenal is a dump.

I would second that - Pete.
Actually, IMO, the marina is really nice - nice swimming pool - nice club etc.
And they do a cheap lunchtime "menu del dia"
But the bar closes a bit early for my liking - not like SC's bar which stays open until everyone has gone!!

But, as Pete says - outside the marina, I can only liken it to a German version of a bigger Magaluf.

Nick
There is a boat (a yachtie) in SC which liked Arenal so much that they went there for the winter months and lifted to do their annual maintenance etc.

There is also a reasonable anchorage just outside the marina - well reasonable bearing in mind that it is in Palma Bay.
Just outside one of the new Posidonia grass areas (half a mile) so you shouldn't get the weed police - but who knows - maybe their nav skills may not be that good.
Here is a pic of the anchorage anyway - lots of sand so you should be ok.

Hi Mike Nice to hear from you. I will be back in Sant Carles on August 31st and then a quick lift before we go. Hoping that the weather and the waves are going to be ok for the crossing to Palma. Have allowed myself 5 days to get there

Allowing time to wait for good conditions if needed. If it all goes smooth will wait quite happily at anchor somewhere in Palma bay before my crew arrives.

Yes - that right Nick
Allow time to sit in the bar in SC and discuss the weather for the crossing.
That won't be the first time that conversation has taken place!!!

Anchoring in Mallorca to wait for crew - something we have done lots of times.
We have used Arenal but the marina are a little funny about entering with a tender. We have got away with it twice so Arenal is an option - and VERY close to the airport.
However, most of the time, we use either Palmanova or Santa Ponsa.
Between Santa Ponsa and Palmanova, you can hide from most of the strong weather.
Santa Ponsa would be my favourite - good on shore facilities but tendering ashore is a bit tricky.
Santa Ponsa is good for all winds except from the west.
So, when the west wind blows, we go round the corner to Palmanova.
Palmanova is mostly weed so the holding isn't that good but they have good shops/restaurants and a good concrete quay for your tender on the Magaluf side of Palmanova.
In fact one August we had a spell of bad weather and we did nothing else other than backwards and forwards between Santa Ponsa and Palmanova.
If the weather REALLY closes in, Palma itself is a very safe haven.

Any of these three places would be good to meet people off the plane.
But they should pay a little extra and use the taxi - not public transport.

Nick
Do you have a tender?
or do you still have the Jetski?
I would recommend some form of tender if you have people to collect.
Or maybe go into Palma to collect the crew.

Looking back at your first post.
We have done the Soller/Palma train but never used Soller to pick crew up.
The train is in two stages - a tram from Port de Soller to Soller itself and then a train through the mountains.
A great day out but probably a bit difficult for someone arriving at Palma Airport to arrange.
It would be better to use a Taxi.
So, IMO, stick to somewhere nearer Palma.

We’re setting off from the mainland tomorrow and if all works out we’ll be there both nights of the 11th and 12th.
Two 10 year olds in tow so look forward to meeting up.
We are a Princess 49, Lady Alice.
