Painting vinyl cushions

My bunk cushions are in good condition but I don’t like the oxblood vinyl covers. The shapes are quite complex, with cut outs and notches to fit around various bits of boat structure, and I know it will be expensive to get new covers made. Has anyone ever used paint to change the colour of vinyl cushions? If so, what make? I want a lighter colour (the cabin is small and a bit dark).
I know I should buy a sewing machine and get stitching etc but realistically that won’t happen I’m afraid. I may be able to make up some “loose covers” with elastic underneath and some artful tucking in around the tricky bits. But I wondered about paint

Possibly a paint used on inflatable boats might be suitable but cushions possibly flex more than an inflatable so it might not last long.

I think that any paint would soon look absolutely dire. I imagine you could dye the vinyl, or maybe not, I don't know.

I'm with johnalison on this one. I think the chances of getting something that will stick well to (especially) old, and likely contaminated to a degree, vinyl, and then flex and take hard wear without coming off are slim to negligible, but i could be wrong.

Probably the easiest solution would be a few sessions with a psychiatrist to overcome your aversion to the colour!

You can get leather paint for car seats. We had a classic Porsche once where a previous owner had used it. The finish wasn't great with dribbles down the back but that may have been poor application

So did I. The paint used on leather car seats will work. I had a set of bright green racing leathers re-coloured black by the local Classic Car upholstery specialist.

I saw him do it with an air brush.

Vinyl seat/cushions would be easier. Paint exists for Vinyl re-colouring.
