Anyone any experience of applying paint onto Sikaflex?
I have covered parts of my deck with Sikaflex 298 to create an even finish where old deck paint has flaked. The Sikaflex has gone on beautifully.
I have painted it with Dulux Weathershield containing aggregate to give a slip resistant finish. Looks great but the weathershield is refusing to go off, it dries very quickly but does not go hard.
I am looking for a primer or undercoat that I can apply to the Sikaflex before using the Weathershield.
Anyone done this to save me lots of trial and error sessions?

How long did you wait before applying the paint? I varnished some decking in our pilot house about 3 days after applying sika to teh seams and the varnish didn't go off for weeks. Remained soft and sticky

Called the hotline on the varnish tin and they said I had to wait longer and suggested 28 days.

I've not used Sikaflex-298, but I've used Sikaflex-291 quite a lot which has similar properties. However, I believe Sikaflex-298 takes quite a bit longer to go fully off.

I generally leave Sikaflex-291 for about a week before painting. Our yacht is finished in polyurethane and two part International undercoat seems to work well, even painting white over black. But I'm just talking about covering the stuff when used as a filler between deck components, not spread over areas.

Why Dulux Weathershield and not a conventional non-slip deck paint? The latter is comfortable to sit (or fall) on as well as slip-resistant, and will surely wear better - the cost difference is too small to matter. International Deck Paint works fine over polyurethane undercoat.

It did eventually, but had lots of grit/sand sawdust stuck to it. I sanded back the sika and it was solid, so I guess it was OK. I haven't re-applied varnish yet -- i'll do that later this month, but should be OK.

I have tried Granocyl -- exterior masonry paint as well as propper deck paint, and to tell the truth I saw little difference in performance, other than on the proper deck paint water would tend to bead on the surface, witht he masonry paint it didn't.

Having said all that, when we repaint, we will be using deckpaint again I think

If this is any help for varnishing a deck with 291 sikaflex seams that won't cure, dab a cloth with mineral turps after the varnish has cured along the seams to remove it
