and although rec.boats.building or rec.boats.cruising lacks the humour of this forum, they do have good technical info and Yankee 'let's try to build it' attitude......

I'll still be using purpose made materials. The cost of material is only part of the story. The labour involved means that, in my book, it's just not worth using anything else.

Personally I use two packs whenever possible. The extra durability makes it worthwhile.

when i ran out of interlux i finished my decks with B&Q enamel. the finished effect was identical.

3 years later the interlux is still in good shape but the cheap stuff has cracked & peeled off.
