Hello
I've made a couple of plywood shelves for the cockpit and coated them with two coats of polyster resin to strengthen and seal them. I intend to then coat them with a two pack acrylic paint to give them a tough, low maintenance finish (one will be walked on, one will have a cobb barbeque stood on it.)
How long should I leave the polyester resin before painting? It cures within 60mins accordibg to the label. But I imagine it will be giving off fumes for a good many days after, judging from how long a resin job on the boat takes to stop smelling noticeably.

I'd be inclined to leave them for about a week. I know if you are f/g it is best not to leave more than a week between coats.

Here it is!!
How long should fiberglass cure before painting?
A fiberglass part can take weeks to cure after it's manufactured. If you follow what some of the experts say, the minimum curing time is usually around 48 hours, while others say fiberglass parts should cure for weeks.Jun 30, 2016
How To Prepare Fiberglass For Painting

Thanks coopec. A week. Hmm, not surprised. A little disappointed that I can't finish the job by the weekend, but I suspected that I was being a bit hasty in my expectations.
I knew that you had up to three days to put a second coat of resin on and expect it to bond chemically. I should have extrapolated from that to realise it would be chemicallt active for a little longer and not to put a different substance on it without problems later down the line
