waxoyl is without doubt brilliant stuff and any finnigans product with waxoyl in it will also be good, sounds like an ideal way of doing it. Finnigans number 1 and hammerite would also be a good bet. Try getting some osfor, phosphoric acid and treating them with that first, bloody good stuff, we use it on the rig, for killing rust, it works very well.

Those of us with steel yachts will be very familiar with this problem. If your bilges tend to run damp, then eradicating rust takes care and you certainly cannot expect to get very far with a treatment of Ku-rust followed by any old metal paint.

My own preferred treatment is similar to Ongolo's. A complete removal of rust as far as practicable by chipping, grinding and wirebrushing; a coat of Fertan to neutralize anything left; this wirebrushed off; five coats of zinc-rich epoxy paint, then a top-coat such as Danboline. Chlorinated rubber paint can provide a useful rust-resistant tie coat. This isn't cheap but it will last 7+ years.
