I did the same about 25 years ago, identical to the BUKH ones but unpainted and a fraction of the price. I had the correct paint and decided to make them match the BUKH originals. I don't think the base plates were painted and just wrapped the rubber parts with masking tape prior to painting. They still looked perfect when I sold the boat in 2009. Paint didn't touch the rubber and they were a perfect match. I don't remember any problems with the unpainted base plates. I don't think there's much in it either way.I ordered some mounts from Robush and was advised that they didn't need painting.
Shouldn't be painted but if you do, don't get it anywhere near the rubber!I've got two replacement engine mounts, should these be painted to prevent them from rusting? Is there a certain paint to use and do I need to avoid getting paint on the rubber parts?
