Painting enamel on fiberglass........stainless steel

Nick

As has been suggested you won't get a lasting result unless you use the correct sot of primer, "Grip lock" has been specially formulated for shiny surfaces.

White Knight Paints - Grip Lock Primer
www.whiteknightpaints.com.au/specialty-paints/home.../grip-lock-primer
White Knight Prep Rite Grip Lock Primer is a high performance primer designed to provide exceptional adhesion to difficult substrates, glossy and hard surfaces.

White Knight Prep Rite Grip Lock Primer may be used on glossy surfaces, ceramics, tiles, laminates, fibreglass, PVC pipes, plastic, glass.

NOTE: I THOUGHT " WHITE KNIGHT" WAS AN INTERNATIONAL COMPANY BUT APPARENTLY NOT. I'M SURE YOU WOULD HAVE AN EQUIVALENT PRODUCT IN THE UK

Painting GRP just follow the manufacturers instructions - clean, rub down degrease undercoat and topcoat. Nothing magic about it. Applying paint is easy - it is the preparation that is important. Stainless a different matter. Not easy to get paint to stick - and why would you want to?

This old tin of Interlux super that I've had for years has the label disintegrating but I can just make out that it says for grp no priming necessary.

I've just tried to upload a photo from my computer to show you what I'm doing but as usual this site makes it impossible & a bloody ordeal so no photo.I've added about a hundred s/s bolts around where the rubbing strake used to be.
As they probably will cause problems if painted I shall probably leave them o' natural as like getting photo's onto this site it will probably be more problems than it is worth.:encouragement:

Open a Photobucket account. Upload your photos. Click on the photo you want to use and you will get a box with choices. click Share then click IMG. this saves a link to your photo. Go back to your thread. Put the cursor where you want the photo, press Ctrl and V. Your link will appear and will show as your photo in your thread.

Once you get the hang it is easy - has to be if I can do it!

Back to your paint. Interlux has been out of production for years, replaced by Topcoat. It needed an undercoat on GRP when I used in my youth. The current undercoat is called Prekote.
