My old tender needs a bit of a spruce up, I was thinking of just touching it up with a coat of paint.

What type/brand of paint would you suggest? My boating is done a very limited budget so price is a major factor.

Frankly, there are two ways to go; you can use the rather expensive two pot polyurethane paints, and get a nice finish, which is tough and fairly scratch proof, or you can whap on a couple of coats of any old paint (plenty of folks use Dulux!) and expect to paint it again next year.

You know the sort of life that your tender lives!

If you ever leave your tender anywhere vulnerable, there's a lot to be said for keeping it scruffy. It's more likely to be there when you come back! I've even heard of people doing a deliberately nasty Dulux job on brand new outboards for the same reason.

I bought a tin of exterior Sandtex gloss at a local cheap shop. Cost me £1.99 and was enough for 3 coats. Unfortunately the only colour they had was purple ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ooh, I must be posh then.
We painted our scruffy dinghy with International Brightside in a lurid Yellow. and White inside.
Despite dragging it everywhere and leaving it to bash against pontoons etc, after 2 years, the paint has adhered very well to the hull. A few scratches which we touch in at the end of the season. Highly recommended, but about 20 quid more than the other economy options listed in the above threads(for both Yellow and White, 2 coats).

After the damage to my tender in the January storms I was about to repaint it but had the same thought as Stemar and left it scruffy looking. The green repair paste is the cheap readymixed grp stuff from a motor factors. Works well. Haven't sunk yet! some sod pinched the tarp on it though.
