Painting aluminium pedestal

My Jeanneau SO in Greece has two aluminium alloy steering pedestals, both with the paint peeling off. Tried to attach pic but not convinced its worked.
Advice on repainting please
Should I remove all existing paint on the pedestals? Sanding / wire brush/ both ?
Just wire brush / sand affected areas and feather back to good paint?
Suitable primer and paint - remember I'm in Greece!
Anything else I should know

Sounds good - I'll see if I can get it in Preveza or Levkas!
Take all the existing paint off, or sand back to good paint and prime bare metal then topcoat?
Can Hammerite primer go over existing paint ( dont know what type that is)

I used Hammerite as well, but used an etch primer first. Now 4 years and no bubbling or anything showing through.

Hammerite special metals primer is a water based etch primer containing potassium hydroxide. It works very well on aluminium and copper alloys. I painted an aluminium adapter plate between my radar scanner and pole with it, followed by white Hammerite smooth. That was in 2003 and I only needed to redo parts of it in 2019.

Unfortunately I have been unable to source it in Greece and took a tin out with me. It only takes a thin layer so will last for years.

I would remove all the paint on the pedestal with abrasives. It will make a far better job than trying to patch up.

Thanks Vyv, my German neighbour in the yard suggests visiting a DIY /car shop. Can of spray etch primer and touch up paint. Great range of colours, uv resistant and no cringing chandlery prices. He works in motor trade. Might chip more easily than yacht paint though.
Might do one pedestal red, one green.

Cellulose paint as typically found in touch up cans will cause alkyd types to bubble. If you go that route check an unseen small area first, or strip the lot off.
