Painting a 'cheek plate'

What method and materials would you use for painting a dark red cheek plate (think go faster stripe) on a GRP boat from the early 90's to dark blue? Brushes or pads or spray, primer etc?

I used water based acrylic from Aldi applied with a roller to paint a blue strip supposed to have been gloss finish but turned out semi matt,but still pleased with the result.

Changed the red painted hull stripe on my Fulmar with International Pre-Kote followed by Toplac in Oxford blue. Good finish using a brush and nice shine.
