hello
could anybody tell me how much a full respray is expected to cost on a 40ft or so , not just sides , I mean all , topside arch transom etc ,
everybody I asked keep dancing around the final figure and not been able to give a price of sort ( Spain )
I would be hugely grateful if someone could share the info
regards
andre

Going on quotes I have received on my hull and topsides I should think 30k would not be far out for the full boat on a 40 footer.

Hi thanks
What boat was it ? Superstructure or open
Where was it done ? Did you do any prep yourself or just gave them the boat and let them deal with it
Thanks

Have not had it done but had quotes for hull and topsides, 48ft aft cabin. Super structure can be complicated and obviously all boats are different so costs will vary. Just re read your post and realised you are in spain, I am south coast uk.

I would suggest you inspect the yards previous paint jobs and see if it’s to your standards.
The hull itself is usually straight forward with large flat areas, but the decks and superstructure is where the time consumption and high cost evolves, removing safety rails, masking small fittings etc.
The big part of any good paint job is the preparation of the surface and better left to the professionals, and you can’t expect warranty on something not fully completed by a professional service.

Just a thought: Dutch yards have a lot of experience and facilities as they do many (also steel-) boats.

Price indication for a 12m boat from Jachtschilder & Jachtspuiter Friesland - Dutchess Yachts Jachtbouw Grou Friesland
is € 3514 for the hull, € 8458 for the top.

For comparison, you could get a quote for 'vinyl wrapping motor yacht' (Googeling)

No connection, just stumbled over them: Prestigewrap UK

The topsides ARE the sides of a boat. The bit between the waterline and the gunwhale.
The top of the boat is the deck and superstructure.
Sounds like n.herring is confusing what the topsides are too.
Worth getting the name of you boat parts right if asking for quotes or you may be disappointed.

Probably , at the moment the painters I had quote from say the hull , for me the hull is all with the exception of the cockpit , the talk about a separate cost for the superstructure , but I only have a radar arch and a windshield past the gunwale

Yes we thought about wrapping , our quote easily come to twice that in Mallorca …. So we thought sod it let’s paint !

I recently had a quote to repaint a 54ft from waterline to gunwhale and it was over £40k from a very good UK company apparently as she's not been previously painted to the whole area (painted above rubrail) the prep work required represents a significant park of the costs, mine won't be getting painted anytime soon !!

Random thoughts:
Spanish companies often don't like giving fixed quotes.
As Mr Husky says, a good sand and polish can be very effective and I would add that a new gelcoat (in the same colour) for the topsides (ie hull) can make a huge difference.
Don't go for dark blue - it fades in the sun and needs a lot of polishing,

Isn’t a new gel coat what’s needed for a repaint
As in same labour / prep etc ?

Note that the price indication referred to was for a paint job ;)
Sorry was referring to the wraps
For paint we had a ballpark figure of 20k and staging at 9600
On wraps , there seem to be all hovering around 13 /15 for an extensive wrap , not a precise figure just as yet and no staging
Trouble is wrap doesn’t last well after the 4th or so year , and at that rate doing it a few time would be false economy to us
We are at quite stages , if we find better options then will consider
She serves us well , we get out on average 3 times a week for about 4 months , the teak is in tatters and the paint job is unlike Simon Cowell’s smile
It’s a good boat beam wise and uses deck space just how we like it , if we had to move on would take a fiart 50
So we thought let’s spruce it up a notch , we like the Italian cruisers of that sort

That is a Fiart 40 Genius. Very nice and elegant in white and much more easier to sell.
Obviously everyone is free to do what he wants with his boat.
The gelcoat in Fiart stays pretty nice even after years and years, unlike for example the British boats which after ten years (especially super structure) starts to get stained.

In the med you will be looking for 10k hull and about 10k super structure. Try to see some jobs of the whoever is doing it so you can do a match.

my 2 cents
