Im looking to buy a second hand yacht where the owner has been a little too zealous in painting everything in sight.
Does the panel have experience of removing paint from GRP and bringing at least the deck and cabin sides etc back to original gel coat and how do they suggest I go about it? or should I, if I buy her just try and redo the paint job properly?

Two things, either sand it off, strip it off with fibreglass paint remover, or flat it and re-paint properly. Only problem with the latter, is what type of paint is it? If two pack, then OK, but if single pack and you want to paint it with two pack, you'll have to seal it first. Personally I'd have it off and start again. Another question you need to ask the previous owner if you can, why did he paint it?

Is it an incredible deal? When you factor in the time and money, (double or quadruple whatever number you first think of for both), it will take to sort it out, it might be worth buying a boat without the paint problem.
