My favourite winter hobby, IMHO a good sand first to provide a key and to help you inspect thorughly for loose or damaged areas. With a change of colour the undecoat has two jobs, it has a greater opacity than gloss, so covering more quickly especially as it dries quicker. The second element being, it is softer to allow fine sanding for that top finish.
To finish I use a gloss roller to apply, followed about a foot later by a foam jenny brush to lay off. You did not mention colour but remember dark colours heat the wood and increase drying effects in the event of a good summer.
As to brand (opening a can of worms) use whatever you are used to. I use toplac on a hot moulded hull, results are good and I know how it flows in the temperatures I normally paint in.

Thank you good advice I propose to keep the topsides white..But the Hull I want go for a True Or Royal Blue ...I have a raised rubbing strake which I propose to counter color ie., Maroon that'll match the Maincover ..E Mail for you.....Best Jeff
