we want to remove the deck paint with a liquid paint str.ipper which will not affect the pigment in the fibreglass we cant sand it down as the deck has a very small pattern to it for anti slip what type of paint stripper can we use
 
I've mentioned Persil Liquid (clothes type) on here before, and never had any feedback.

I've used it to strip all sorts of things.

Soak a cloth in it, cover with plastic to stop it drying out. Leave it for a few days. You might be impressed.

Bio or non bio ? Regular stuff or "Small and Mighty"


If that fails probably the most effective paint stripper will be "Marine Strip" Previously called Dilunett.

It is caustic soda based so safe on GRP ( I don't think any of the old methylene dichloride based paint strippers are available now) but keep it of yourself esp out of your eyes. Gloves and goggles absolutely essential kit.
BUT I think not effective on chlorinated rubber so will depend on the paint type you are trying to remove.

If using Dilunett (or similar) keep it away from any aluminium fittings as it eats the anodising coating - guess how I know....
 
Bio, small and mighty. Other flavours may work too.

No adverse effects on Alu, but not great on Magnesium alloy, a bit of pitting. That was probably due to two weeks immersion (forgot about it). Water would quite possibly have been as bad.
