I've stripped out most of the fittings from the cabin of my trailer sailer (Skipper 17) to tidy things up. The bilges had been painted in the past, and I've given them two coats of Danboline. I now need to tackle the higher levels in the cabin and the interior roof which have never been painted before and are bare. I want to paint these areas white to make it cleaner. Do I need a specific marine paint (and if so, which) or can I use a normal household paint?
Thanks for your advice.

Unlike my experiment with garage floor paint for the inside of the tender (), my experiment with bathroom emulsion/paint inside the boat has been a huge success...

No primer was used... just prepped the surface and then sugar soaped followed by two coats of the Bathroom Paint... I took the view that bathroom paint has additional advantages being suitable for a damp environment/anti-mould etc. It's been on two years now and still looks fresh and clean...

For what it's worth, I painted the inside of mine with Dulux trade eggshell, though that was wooden bits rather than GRP.

get what you pay for?

We've painted the inside of a grp cabin with white Danboline or similar and been pleased. I covers very well (I think we just put one coat on), needed no primer and is durable. I don't enjoy painting much and tend to think the main cost to me is my labour/mess rather than the paint itself. So I tend to use the best paint I can find on the ground that I won't have to do it again for as long as possible.

Well, I've been across to our local hardware and bought a small tin of 'Eggshell' which will be enough to paint the inside of the cabin roof. I've got some (red) Danboline left over which is enough to paint behind the cabin racks and shelves. If it's not too wet tomorrow, I'll be up at the boat to get on with the job. Thanks for all your good advice.

+1

Used bog standard B&Q Anti Mould paint to brighten up an old Leisure 17, worked like a charm.
