Hi all.

I'm off tomorrow to join a delivery of a boat for a leg from Salalah in Oman to Fujeirah in the UAE - 850 - 900 Nm or near abouts. Its time to pack tonight and whilst I want to keep weight and baggage size down can any of you seasoned long distance sailors suggest any personal items that I should take that you would not be without?? I have most of the usual kit on my boat but don't know what the other boat will have,

cheers

Make sure you have lots of sunscreen and sun burn treatment. A variety of hats all capable of being tied on and lots of cotton long sleeved shirts together with long preferably white trousers. Spare sunglasses of course.
If I am right it will be very hot. You might even find white cotton socks the best footwear to ward off sunburn of the feet. You will need to take the sun danger seriously.
You need a hat with a wide brim but then if there is any wind you need a hat that has a tail to cover neck that can be tied around to cover the lower face. (Think Arab outfit) You also need to think of sleep wear and bedding suitable for hot nights. Of course it could get pretty cold too.
have a good trip olewill

You obviously know the area, food, customs, medicine, so all you will need is a large hat and good sun glasses for seeing the reefs. .

I also suggest you take along, or practice, your very best UK accent for when the big grey ships try to use you for steering/target practice. Sorry, had 2 really bad incidents with them in that area. The professionalism leaves a lot to be desired.

Other suggestions:
Good pair of bins. How up to date are the available charts? Patience for when the wind blows the wrong way in the Gulf of Oman (good wind funnel between mountains). Dust mask!!! Good book to bury your head in? Rehydration salt packs? Sun block stick.
