I spend a bit of time repairing sails. Usual repair on Kevlar /Mylar take the form of sticky back then sew about 1/4 of an inch in around the edge of the tape. This does an excellent job on my sails for my quarter tonner. My son has my old Finn and a collection of "plastic" sails he has managed to semi destroy. He came in with a sample of package tape which looks very similar to the sail material in kevlar Finn sails. The tape is a 3M product that has apparently been discontinued. On hearing the product was to be discontinued a local plumber bought up all the local stock. Googling produces plenty of hits but I'm looking for comments from people who have tried this stuff on sails. We have probably all had experience of this stuff on parcels, near impossible to tear.

might be fibreglass reinforced tape, used to be made by 3m but i believe we buy it from another scource at work. Its clear tape with fibreglass strands woven across the tape. If thats right i can find the supplier for you

sons radio controlled glider was built from kit with similair sounding tape - could be worth looking at model shops - he got his from soar ahead sailplanes who have a web site in case that helps (no connection other than bought 2 gliders from them - first one flew off into huge hedge and never found!)
