On my 25 year old Moody 39 a few days ago I checked the cutless bearing in the P bracket and it was quite worn so I took the drive shaft out. Then I scraped the anitfoul off the bracket and noticed it was very coppery coloured in places and extensively dezincified. So I removed the P bracket. After cleaning everything up I found the the base of the bracket was quite small relative to the recess in the hull, ie 4.25X6" against 6.5X8" and was mounted on a wedge shaped wood block which was slightly larger than the bracket base and tapered down from 3/4" to about zero from aft to forward. Is this normal and where do I go from here? PS yacht's in Portugal - P bracket's in UK (as of 22/4).

Log onto the Moody Owners web site and look at the technical library, there is a host of useful information there that should answer your question. You will need a password to log on, just contact the administrator and he will provide one on a temporary basis. If you get a problem just come back to me.

Unfortunately the original poster posted to the MOA web a few days ago and so far had no reply, and the Technical Library cannot help on this one. So if anyone here can help we would all be grateful....
