I was thinking of installing a small ozone generator and let it run off a timer every other day for a minute or two to help break down odors in the boat. Any thoughts on that pertaining detrimental long term effects on plastics, metals electrics, electronics, pets, kids etc?

I've heard that ozone can attack rubber components. Specifically, car tyres, but am not sure if its true. Certainly, it's fairly reactive stuff.

are you meaning an "ioniser" ? An ozone generator is fierce bit of kit to use in a domestic environment.

I've had an Elanra Ioniser for years. Yes it works, and causes dust to fall out of the air thereby removing many smells and aerosol bacteria. The main benefit is for SWMBO, as the negative ions which it generates contribute positively (ha ha!) to the way she feels.

One drawback with the Elanra is the need to replace the discharge points every six months or so.

You will need to run it for more than a couple of minutes per day. (see their instructions page)

Recommended. It is not electronic snake oil. :)
